Faizan Azmi was deported to Delhi by Sharjah today by an evening flight and was arrested by the National Investigative Agency in the capital.
Azmi has been allegedly working for the terror organisation for several years but was noticed by intelligence agencies for the first time for his alleged role in harbouring IM operatives belonging to Azamgarh module after they managed to escape from Delhi following the Batla House encounter in 2008.
Shortly after that, he managed to flee the country to Sharjah, where he has allegedly been acting as a conduit for hawala operations, through which the terror organization was fed money for the past five years.
Azmi was wanted by both Delhi Police's Special Cell and the National Investigation Agency and a red corner notice has been issued against him.
Investigators are hoping that he will give them leads with regard to the money trail and source of funds being channeled into India for terror activities.
Azmi will be produced at the Patiala House court in Delhi on Saturday.
